Restoration of an apartment building in the Buchansky district near Kyiv

An apartment building in Buch, near Kyiv, suffered serious damage during the Russian occupation.

During the winter, water seeped through the roof and walls, damaging the building, causing mold and making the premises uninhabitable. Urgent repairs were needed. NPO KRAYANI provided support for roof and wall repairs. This apartment building was recently completed in 2021. Prior to the invasion, approximately 1,500 people lived in the six buildings and 520 rooms, many of whom were families with children. As of November 2023, approximately 70% of the families had returned.

Restoration of an apartment building in Gostmel near Kyiv

The town of Hostmel near Kyiv suffered significant damage from bombing by the Russian occupation. The first three floors of this apartment building were damaged, and without reinforcement work, other repairs could not begin. NPO “KRAYANI” helped with reinforcement and repair work in the apartment building. All work has been completed, and residents of 25 apartment buildings can now safely return home.

Reconstruction of school buildings for students with hearing impairments

We supported the reinforcement of the basement and renovation of the interior of a school for hearing-impaired students in Kyiv. This school, which serves hearing-impaired and autistic children, suffered significant damage from bombing and an explosion in the surrounding area in March 2022.

Since the school does not have an underground shelter, to ensure the safety of the students, the basement was reinforced so that it could be used as a shelter, and other internal renovations were also carried out.

Support for the demolition of abandoned houses

We helped demolish a house full of memories that had been completely destroyed by the Russian army.

This family’s house was completely destroyed by a direct hit in March 2022.

They built this house nine years ago for two families and lived a peaceful life with their children. Even after the full-scale invasion began, they hid in the basement of a neighboring house during the shelling and remained in the village until the very end, without evacuating. However, when the Russian army occupation was already two or three kilometers away, they decided to evacuate their house. A few days after making the decision to evacuate, their house was completely destroyed by a direct hit. Fortunately, no one was home at the time, but the two families lost a house filled with memories.

A year after the destruction, the family turned to the partner of the NGO “KRAYANI”, the charity GURTUM, to ask if they could demolish their abandoned house, and soon they would be able to get a modular home.

To demolish the house, volunteers first tore down part of the wall themselves, then brought in heavy equipment. Using two excavators, they took a day and a half to demolish the entire damaged wall, clearing the site for the family’s new home and allowing them to install a modular home.
